Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Products

What is African Black Soap?

African Black Soap is a traditional soap made in West Africa using locally harvested plant materials including plantain skin ash, cocoa pod ash, coconut oil, palm kernel oil, and shea butter. It has been used for centuries for cleansing, treating skin conditions, and maintaining healthy skin.

Why is the soap brown/dark and not black?

Authentic African Black Soap is actually brown, not black. The name comes from the dark color of the raw soap before it is processed. If a “black soap” is jet black, it likely contains artificial coloring. The natural brown color of our soap is a sign of its authenticity.

Is your Shea Butter really unrefined?

Yes! Our Shea Butter is 100% raw and unrefined. You can tell by its ivory-yellow color and natural nutty aroma. Refined shea butter is white and odorless but has lost most of its beneficial vitamins and fatty acids during processing.

Are your products suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes, all our products are 100% natural with no synthetic chemicals, fragrances, or preservatives. They are suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. However, we always recommend doing a patch test before first use.

Can I use African Black Soap on my face?

Absolutely! African Black Soap is gentle enough for daily facial use. It helps cleanse pores, balance oil production, and improve skin texture without over-drying.

Product Care

How should I store African Black Soap?

Keep your black soap in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use a well-draining soap dish to keep it dry between uses. African Black Soap is soft and can absorb moisture, so proper storage extends its life.

How should I store Shea Butter?

Store in a cool, dry place at room temperature. Shea butter has a natural shelf life of 24 months. It may soften in warm weather and firm up in cold — this is completely normal and doesn't affect quality.
